Lukas lives in Astoria, Oregon where he works as the sole staff photographer for The Astorian, a paper that has served the North Coast since 1873.
He is a lover of the outdoors, spending his free moments taking in all that the pristine sands of the coast can offer. Lukas is proudly mediocre at playing the guitar and never turns down an opportunity for a last-minute climbing trip, and sometimes, he rolls up his pant legs to look like he is better at climbing than he is.
Lukas' photographic style emphasizes quiet and candid moments. His goal is to photograph with empathy and integrity, putting trust with his subjects at the forefront. Lukas is in his element in bad weather and embraces all that Mother Nature has to offer. Lukas studied photojournalism at the University of Montana in Missoula where he worked as a photographer and photo editor at the award winning Montana Kaimin student newspaper. After a short stint working for Lee papers like the Montana Standard and the Ravalli Republic, he acquired a love and an appreciation for small town news. It was this appreciation that led him to take on his current job at the Astorian. Lukas strongly believes that news is a public service and any editorial power must be held by those local to the communities they report on. Any inquiries can be directed to the email below. Lukas cannot wait to take ambiguous detail shots of whatever project comes next.
